About this blog

I was a founding board member of Life Matters Worldwide, and then worked for that pro-life organization for about 36 years as Administrative Assistant, Research & Publications, Editor, and Director of Communications. This involved researching and writing, publication design, website maintenance, social media, and whatever else was needed. Basically I collected information and did my best to connect it to the people who needed it—individuals, churches, and pregnancy care centers.

I  graduated from Cornerstone University in 1980, with a major in English Literature and minors in Bible and Art. I've been a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan since I was 12.

Studying the Bible is one of my favorite things to do. My method is a lot of observation of the text... what words are used and ideas repeated. I do a lot of cross-referencing, keeping track of questions that a passage might raise and letting other passages illuminate it. Language and context are so important to correctly interpreting and applying a passage, and sometimes it can take a lot of work to make sense of something. The time spent is well worth it.

In this way I have compiled a long list of passages that relate to the sanctity of human life, or what I call the biblical pro-life ethic. When I began working in pro-life ministry, there were a relative handful of passages to which we would refer as the basis for opposing abortion. They were often used as "proof texts." But as I spent more time in pro-life ministry, and more time studying the Bible, I found support for the pro-life ethic running throughout the Bible.

The tried-and-true pro-life passages are not anomalies or outliers in Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation we can have great confidence that God's word supports the sanctity of human life and never supports the taking of innocent life. The evidence for a pro-life ethic is overwhelming.

Recently retired, I'm excited to be able to turn my attention more fully to this project. I'm grateful that God is allowing me to do this.
